Is there a technical explanation for Sony portable CD players, that the battery lasts longer with anti skip G-protection on ? I would tend to think the reverse because of memory usage, but in every manual, they rate the battery life few hours more with the protection " ON " .

What Sparky191 said. Although keep in mind that with most portable CD players, anti-skip buffering compresses the signal and consequently reduces sound quality.
