I'm surprised there isn't more discussion around this already. I'm curious how people are feeling about it. Since Sony makes legitimate audiophile products and their prices are generally more favorable than smaller brands for similar tech I think it could bring some cool products to the market.

Yes, they've already been working with Audeze and used their tech in several recent products. I think it's a combination of that as well as the noise cancelling. It also gives them an ability to segment their high end and lifestyle products. A lot of people have misconceptions about Sony's high end offerings.
