I've been wondering if my Sony A15 could benefit from a DAC/Amp even though I only use entry level IEMs (Shure 215 and I just ordered the Trinity Vyrus).
 
How does it work to add a portable DAC/Amp?
 
I had a look around the website and saw some people using an Oppo or FiiO DAC/Amp and would like to understand better what it does and whether or not it would make sense to buy, say, the Oppo ha-2, instead of buying a new DAP. Can you get a less expensive improvement through a DAC/Amp? Or a better one for the same price?
 
If anyone knows of articles that explain these things, I would like to learn a bit more about it beyond just the question regarding the Sony.

Sony makes a very decent DAP.
Can the Sony NWZ-A15 even work with an add-on DAC/amp?

The A15 works fine with a DAC/Amp. Sony even market their own DAC/Amp using pictures with the a15 attached to it. I just don't really know how much I could gain from using one compared to replacing it with a higher end DAP. And I am curious to learn how it works.
