Is there any difference in sound between the older (say ones made 4-5 years ago) and newer (say ones made in the last 18 months) RS1 headphones?

Yes, they found that the brown headbands were reflecting too much of the sound waves and thus muddling the sound.

I have it from a reliable source that the parts for the RS1 have stayed the same since the very beginning, excluding the differences in headbands and the packaging. Specifically, the speakers/drivers have never changed.
