Redshifter's post in the member's section about the Velvet Underground song got me thinking about songs that are actually written about headphones (or have mentions of headphones in the lyrics). There must not be a whole lot of them out there, but it'd be interested to compile. Or possibly even movies about headphones, or using headphones to an insane degree. Yes, I know this is a bit obsessive... but I think we are probably a rather obsessive bunch.

The only song I can think of currently is Bjork's song, simply entitled "Headphones", on her Post album.

genius to fall asleep to your tape last night
sounds go through the muscles
these abstract wordless movements
they start off cells that haven't been touched
before

these cells are virgins

my headphones
they saved my life
your tape
it lulled me to sleep

nothing will be the same

i'm fast asleep

i like this resonance
it elevates me
i don't recognize myself
this is very interesting

my headphones
they saved my life
your tape
it lulled me to sleep

i'm fast asleep now

i'm fast asleep

my headphones
they saved my life
your tape
it lulled me to sleep

The documentary "Scratch" and the John Cusack movie "High Fidelity" both have a ridiculous amount of headphones. Lot of v700s in scratch, "High Fidelity" everyone also has big earphones on or carried around but I can't tell what they are. Someone with more knowledge than I have should go watch both and report back.

Here's a case of misheard lyrics: John Mayer, Your Body Is a Wonderland:

Somethin' 'bout the way the headphone's in your face...
Should be
Somethin' 'bout the way the hair falls in your face...

I'm pretty sure in High Fidelity, Cusack has HD580's for his home set, they sure look like them anyway.

Not really about headphones per se, but here's one of the shots from Mulholland Drive that's frequently used (it's on the back of the DVD case, and in the trailer, for example). I've seen this picture floating around a good number of times

EDIT: After checking the DVD's trailer, its a Sony MDR V6

I can only think of two songs that mention headphones.

#1. Modest Mouse - "Sleepwalking":
The white trash boys
Listen to their headphones
Blasting white noise
In the convenience store parking lot

#2. The Promise Ring - "Get On The Floor":
There's no one to save with your albums
So come on baby take off your headphones
No more guitar songs
It's just nervous energy you're sending to me

Stereolab and Nurse With Wound do a joint track called "Simple Headphone Mind", on Wire magazine's 3 CD boxset, The Wire 20 1982-2002 among other places.
