i heard that the 0404 was actually very coloured and the 1212m, even if people say its neutral, its more coloured....
saying that the M-audio 2496 ( or someting sorry forgot) had the most neutral source for the price range or something...

is this true? woudl the 0404 be TOO coloured and not show mistakes and stuff>?

"Colored" is just a matter of opinion and is relative your other equipment. It's not a matter of detail retreival.

That said the 0404 is more detailed than Audiophile 24/96.

1212m is the least colored, most detailed sound card I've heard. But I didn't hear that many, so YMMV.

The usual complaint is that the 1212m is too analytical. Hearing that someone complains it's colored is a first.

What lan said. As far as I'm concerned, the 0404, colored or not, is far more revealing than the 2496.

As far as I can tell, Aman is the only one with this opinion. Who knows, he may be the only guy who is right on this forum.
