i know this has been discussed many times before, especially the difference between the 500 and the 550, yes i used the search function found a lot of results (35 sites) but i didn't get the answers for all of my questions,

Some Q's:
  • Whats the Difference between the 500's and the 550's ?

  • wich should i buy, 400-450-500-550 ? (simple answer please)
  • Could anyone please post some live pics ?

imo the 450 looks very cool, i'm thinkin about buying them... do you recommend them ?

550s have been very good to me for about 3 years now but after listening to the Shures and the Senn PX 100 I just couldn't go back to them.

They are pretty standard blah black earbuds, IMHO. Inline volume control is nice so I don't have to fumble for the Hold switch, unlock the DAP, then find the volume slider. But I've not used the other models you mention so can't compare.

Here's a picture.

I can only tell you that all the MX-buds with a 50 have 16ohms while the older ones have 32 ohms.
I have some MX400 which came along with my portable and theyr sound is quite good for buds but the comfort isn't good for me.

BTW, the only difference between all of the 4XXs and 5XXs is that the 5XXs have inline volume control. Doesn't affect the sound much, but more parts = easier to break, so if you don't need the volume control I'd get a 4XX.

My favorite Sennheiser earphone is ...the PX10. To me it sounds a little clearer and more extended than my MX450, which in its turn sounded better than the older MX500. I like it a lot.

i just got mx500. im not sure about 4xx vs 5xx being the same sounding, as i read a review about the 500's sounding way better than the 400's. but i know how some people can "hear things".

i sorta like my mx500. the good news is that they are not harsh, which is my least favorite headhone trait. but they do sound a little thin to my ears. they lack bass and mid bass. they lack detail and dynamics as well, but those arent things you reall look for in a 15 dollar earbud.

overall, id say only get them if you need something that small. they do the trick if you just want someting to groove to tunes on the go and wont be analyzing the sound. but if you can handle something bigger, or a more expensive canalphone, go for that instead.

hoppe that helps, whitney

Btw, yep, the MX400 and MX500 have certainly not the same sound. I liked the 500 much better, as I felt it was more "refined" / warm (timbre not just balance).

Anyway, the MX400 and MX500 did not have identical specifications like the MX450 and MX550 do ... I still have to hear the MX550, to make sure whether they are equal or not.
