I was curious whether these phones were in fact the same, as they look visually very similar. So I emailed Sennheiser support with the following message:

However, only the CX 300 is compliant with the Sennheiser quality standards, as only this product is continously checked by Sennheiser employees on site. Since we neither know where and under what conditions other companies like Creative manufacture or source their products, nor do we know what inner construction and materials they use, please understand that it is not up to Sennheiser to judge or compare competitor´s products. Nevertheless, regardless of the visual similarities, "Audio", one of Germany´s major audio magazines, rated the CX 300 (60 points) significantly better than the Creative EP630 (40 points) in their January 2006 issue. So, they're manufactured by the same company, but might not be the same? Draw your own conclusions...

fwiw, i just recently reaad a post where a guy who owned both the sharp and the creative...he said he thought the creative sounded quite a bit better.

the sharp..and that was before he even burned the creatives in i believe.
i don't think the guy had tried the cx300's, or atleast he didn't mention anything about them. i'll try to dig up the post, if i can find it

So in conclusion, we'd have to have someone actually open these cans up and study the drivers themselves.

And some may compare things without various hours of the burn-in effect taken into consideration.

This is one of the things that will never be resolved.
