Some new Alternative Rock/Metal suggestions?

nice thread,i am also currently looking for other alternative/death metal like "in flames" and "sonic syndicate".  except for those two i don't know any others at all.
i really like this kind of death metal because it is melodic and i like the vocals very much.  they are not like the typical death metal growls but more screaming.

Looks like you're looking for more melodic death metal, check these out:

Dark Tranquillity
Insomnium
Cormorant
Skyfire
Mors Principium Est
Scar Symmetry
Sacrilege (In Flames drummer Daniel Svensson should have never left this band!)

In Flames are a pitiful shadow of what they once were IMO, as their sound now is far removed from their past glories like "Whoracle" and "The Jester Race".

Devin Townsend, I have "Terria" at the moment but there will be more in the future. Just be open and curious when you listen to this album for it can surprise you...

Some of my favorites:
The Replacements- They have two "sides", as I would put it. I'd say start with Tim. It would be a mix of both "sides", and then you can find out which side you like better.
Bloc Party- Start with "Silent Alarm"
Spoon- Only listened to the most recent one.
The National- I liked their self labeled debut, and thats the only one I heard. Many people like the most recent release, "High violet"
Goo Goo Dolls- "Superstar Carwash". I think its amazing. Like the replacements, they have two "sides". The mainstream one you hear today (which frankly, isn't too bad) and their old, harder style.

News from the cave:

Leon, the new Hard-Melodic promise released his first solo album Till The End.
About him and his music: Leon is arrived as an upcoming singer from the european metal scene, with a lot of rock and melodic influences.. His first solo project TILL THE END is a short first chapter of this new story. It's in fact the core of the intense and melodic side that Leon shows you.
Till the end will simply rock your soul.
You know that melodies who remain inside you and then you feel it yours and continue to listen it for hours in your head. Well.. Till the end just penetrate in your skin.
It's hard to describe it.. just listen it.

A genre I literary have a distaste for or maybe are not that into are Rap/ Hip-Hop, but one band stands clearly out of the else so beat/ rhyme based boredom. Dälek that's currently signed to Ipecac Recordings are hands down something quite different, they draw on a very wide base of influences and not just play to death a somewhat cool sample.

Paragraphs Relentless from Abandoned Language, 2007 -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvM5iVq5Nag
2012 (The Pillage) from Gutter Tactics, 2009 -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GnTYS-dCu4

I know.. not rock/ metal, but they are alternative and draw influence from metal and I saw you mentioned Incubus and Deftones.
