The Hakko 936 looks perfect. While the thread is going, what type of tip would you guys reccomend for small parts work?

I have a Xytronic XY9-60A. No experience with the 379. The model I have is excellent so far and well built. They heat up FAST. I've used 1 tip for a couple of weeks now with no visible deterioration.The tips are $4.79 ea (for the 379 too). I'd have gone through 2 radio shack tips by now.

When I bought my station I spoke to the seller and he stated everthing was backed up by the company on his end.

I think a few others around here have Xytronic irons and they were happy.

They are not a new company. They don't seem to be a knock off company as they produce a lot of solder related equipment.

I like a thin conical for really small smd work, and a bevel or chisel tip with only a little bit of edge for through hole.

if you're thinking of a new hakko, may as well bump up the budget and pick up a used Metcal SP200

Probably because the sp200 is worth more to people than 100 bucks. Seriously $100 can't buy much. It sure can't buy a better soldering station.

thanks for the help guys, I decided on the Hakko 936 soldering iron, it looks very good. For the tip, I am looking at a http://www.hmcelectronics.com/cgi-bi...uct/0460-0014/
conical tip for cabling and board assembly. Does that look like a good one, or do you guys have some better suggestions?
