Soldering Sennheiser headphone cables UGH

Not sure how you guys handle these cables, but I'm finding them awful to work on. Not only does the main insulation contain fiber threads, but the individual wires inside have fiber threads running through them. Even with plenty of flux applied, these wires will not take solder. They're essentially solder kryptonite.

I did the best I could with soldering a 1/8 phono connector on the cable. Unfortunately my right channel is at 0.5 ohm and my left channel is at 5 ohm. Not sure how noticeable that will be, but the numbers alone don't thrill me.

Anyone have a better technique for working with these cables? Headphones in question are an old pair of HD555.

Stock Sennheiser cables are litz style so each individual strand of wire is coated with enamel. You have to scrap or chemically strip the strands before you attempt to solder them. I just use an Exacto knife and light touch so as not to damage wire too much not the perfect method ,I am sure, but it works.
