so does the shield (only on the source end of course) and ground just get soldered to that bigass half circle piece? I was expecting a smaller solder tab type thingie

I think mine are similar to yours, in that case they can just be soldered to the surface directly. The alloy used heats up extremely quickly, so it's not hard at all.
