Hi,

I recently heard of a Japanese Tube DAC called Softone Model 2 DAC.

Has anybody heard of that device, too? Are there any experiences?

I'm using one now. Surprising for the price, the output stage is discrete zero-feedback tube amp, not opamp. Great on vocals and violins, esp if you have a strong aversion to digital source - about the most analog sounding DAC I've tried. Certainly makes most sub $2K CDP sounds a bit plastic in the treble.

The timing & pace is surprisingly good, so you don't get the laggard prodding pace of some tube DACs.

On the downside, bass is not strong and I would not use it if I listens primarily to rock. Certainly more for acoustic music than elctronica.
