I am getting crazy here trying to decide between the SMV3 and the SR71. Sound wise they sound more or less the same, according to reviews. Are the SR71 able to drive my HD600 fine or the SMV3 will do it better? If I invest this kind of money better be good and able to drive all my cans, in case that I needed. Thanks a lot.

Since the gain can be different for the SR-71, I think the accounts of it not driving the HD-600 must be the effect of somebody trying a low gain SR with the senns.

The SR-71 will drive the HD600 with authority.

Edit: And if you're one of those listeners who enjoys going deaf, you could always request the high gain version--though on the standard version I've had no reason to go above half-way.

MY impressions are with the stock gain, there is plenty of juice pumping through that baby to drive it with authority

you can request for Ray to change the gain. But seriously man. I have an SR-71 too and there is no questioning its power. You wouldnt even need a higher gain model to go deaf. you could go deaf as a rock with the stock version if thats what you want. I, like Recstar, have never really gone past halfway.

And lately Ive been using my SR71 as a pre-amp to drive my powered monitors, which are set at -10db, and the damn thing still has more than enough juice.

I think the only issues here might be size, opamps, or price. ...or looks

I make all my upgrades in this life. I rejoice in the dark side every single day that I go to work. I belong to the system.

I think Ray can adjust the gain so that IEM users have more useful range and fine adjustment. In this config, HD600 levels will probably be around 12-3 o'clock.
I guess it can be set so that HD-6X0 will be at listening level earlier in sweep range.
I have normal version and it's great w/ etys and HD-6X0.

The Supermacro V1 or V3 will have no issue driving the HD600 as long as you have a decent input signal. If I turn my V3 up past 3/4 using my iPod as a source (SikDin), it'll phsyically hurt my ears...and that's without the "amplify" switch flipped. Hold on, let me try it with the amp switch on....yep, PLENTY loud.

I'm sure either amp will work wonderfully.
