Hi all, although the title might be about audez'e, I really don't want to talk about this company in my thread. Since the lcd-2 is not working out for me ( second pair cracked), I need advice for something around it.

The candidates i'm considering: sennheiser hd-650, hd-600, hifiman he-500 he-400 and he-6
I already have Denon d7000 and k701

My rig:
denon DCD-1650AR
Schiit bifrost (for pchifi)
Schiit Lyr

Music I'm listening to:
Classical(60%)
Femal vocal(20%)
pure music, like saxophone tributes etc(15%)
anything else(5%)

Thanks to y'all in advance

If I were you, I'd honestly not even consider the HE-400s. IMO, they are not in the same league as the other headphones you mentioned. I'd personally go for the HE-500s as they are great value at 699 plus they excel across the music genres you mentioned. If you have great amplification though, you might want to consider the HE-6 instead.

The HD650 is a very good phone, if you can wait a bit longer maybe you should also audition the HD-700?  Its in the same price range as LCD2.  But only people that had listen to it was on CES back in Jan.

I second that. I own the HD-600, HD-650 and (non-cracked) LCD-2. The HD-600/HD-650 would be a total let down after the LCD-2. The only thing they've got going for them, compared to my LCD-2 rev. 1, is a more accurate, less dark frequency response, even the HD-650, but their sound is quite homogenized with distinctly less midband resolution. That said, I don't listen to classical that much and, if I did, I think the frequency balance advantage (in my book) of particularly the HD-600, would weigh more heavily. But it's not the LCD-2 that's up for consideration and the HiFiMan headphones, which I haven't heard, are generally said to be brighter than the LCD-2, right?

I love the HE-500 at it's price point, but it doesn't offer the Audeze bass. I believe the HE-5LE has better bass than the HE-500, but it's harder to drive. Should have no problems with the Lyr provided your DAC outputs are hot enough. Definitely take a listen to the HD650, HE5-LE, and HE-500.

The HD650 is not a total let down after the LCD-2. IMHO it's the LCD-2 that's diminished when the HD650 is heard through a system that has good synergy with it. The Bifrost/Lyr combo the OP owns is such a rig.

So odd. I take it from your signature that you own and have lived with the equipment you're talking about.

I don't feel strongly about most gear I've owned or heard, except for the LCD-2. I simply hear more with it. More subtlety, easier to follow lyrics, easier to hear into a mix, but unforced at the same time. Heard it said that the Sennheisers need a good amp to really come alive, but always thought they are meant to have synergy with the Benchmark DAC1 that I own.
