One day isn't much. Where are they coming from?

A day or so -- and it is probably no big deal.

target.com
shipped out from IL to CA.
how long would that take on UPS Ground Shipping?

Certain UPS routes take much longer than others.

Any time i order anything from the northeast it spends at least 4 days sitting in a warehouse outside o'hare airport. The city name they apply to that stop in the tracking data escapes me at the moment -- it doesn't say chicago.

By contrast, whenever i ship anything via UPS ground from socal it takes a maximum of three days to get to me.

FedEx ground, on the other hand, from socal, takes more than a week. FedEx packages between socal and Utah meander through central california before hanging a right at sacramento and heading east on I80. It's moronic, considering they could just head up I15 like UPS does.

Did they give you any tracking information?

from the 14th up to the 18th.
hasn't been updated since.

Check the tracking number to see what happened. It might've been left at the front desk of your apartment complex (happened to me a few times before).

UPS ground shipping is 3-5 days, standard. If it's been over a week, chances are high that your package was misrouted.

If not, you can file a claim for package not received. Happened to me with an Amazon shipment, got all my money back.

I don't know where you're getting that - packages from NYC to Utah routinely take 10 or more working days via UPS Ground. It's brutal.
