How is it without an external clock? I'm unlikely to go down that road now, if at all. From their marketing, it looks like it will be quiet, controlled, and let me use the AES input on my Schiit AKM Modius.

Really not sure as it’s clock input was my reason for buying, so I have not tried it without. The unit is very nice in use. I like its remote, the clear tops see thru experience is helpful vs the solid aluminum of the original player, and it’s a fast load and reader. Very solid value. I would think without the external clock, it will really depend upon the dac used.
