Smooth man. Smooth.

nice. that's the flattest response graph i've ever seen (not that that means i'll like them for sure). i will have to look into those beyers someday soon.

Was that out of a 120 ohm output, or 0 ohm?

well that graph has had extra smoothing applied to it.

here it is without the smoothing
http://headphone.com/graph.php?graphID=171

and remember it's only flat according to an average of headphones picked out by headroom, which may not mean anything (seeing as how different headphones were equalised to sound flat by different conventions. free field vs. diffuse field).

It's still very good dude.

Don't get too excited

They sound good, yes, but they tend to lack emotion or love.
I never find the DT931 sucking me into the music like some of the other Beyer models, but I'd really like to hear them from a Corda sometime.

LOL!!

You're saying that in a totally technical way!!

Also, have you tried the 931 from a 120ohm output? It's supposed to increase it's love rating significantly.

Technical Schmecnical, I don't care about specs and figures, my ears tell me all I need to know

Alas no I haven't heard them from a 120ohm jack, as I said - I'd really like to.

The DT931 is technically all I could ask from a headphone, but technically better doesn't always mean realistically better.

For example, posting messages while listening to the DT770pro, I'll pause to air drum or air guitar, the rest of the time my feet are tapping along. With the DT931 on the other hand the foot tapping is lacking and I never feel the urge to leap out my chair and grab a tennis racket. If I concentrate on the music I'm amazed at the amount of detail, seperation, soundstage and so on, but there always seems to be something missing.
I like my headphones to have a bit of love

huh, although I only heard them at the WOH tour with a maxed out home, I found them painfully bright. Ah well, it was only a first impression, but still. . .

Gregg and I have been arguing reponse curves and impedance matching for awhile. The DT931 has been discussed in the impedance thread (look at the impedance curve - over 700 ohms). and look at headroom's comments. I would like to see what they sound like out of my Crown D60 amp. As for frequency response, look at the actual frequency response curve and not the normalised one. From what I've gathered, the DT531 and DT770 beats the DT931 for overall sound. We'll see what the DT880s does in a few weeks. Anyone in Phoenix own the DT931?

That's a bit general

The DT931 sounds technically fantastic, better than the DT531 or 770pro. Clearer, crisper, more detailed etc.

But I just don't find it as enjoyable to listen to.

It's the difference between sitting there thinking "wow, this sounds incredible" and leaping up out of your chair to pretend you're playing lead guitar for KISS (or your favourite air guitar band).

Here's the NON-normalized (actual) frequency response:

For the record, I found the 931 to be a bit sterile, with bass that isn't as good as the graphs would have you believe, and without the great highs of the 831.
