I'm noticing not many people are recommending Earsonics SM3 anymore...
Other universal models such as the Heir Audio 4.Ai, PFE232, Westone 4 are commonly recommended over the SM3, so I'm curious to where the SM3 stands now.
Do people still regard this model as one of the best out there or have they been 'dethroned'?

I think it's just a sound that doesn't appeal to everyone. I can see someone really loving them, but I myself really disliked the presentation. I think it's an IEM that you should hear first before jumping in on. Things like the W4 and the Heir 4.Ai are probably more likely to satisfy more people.

Not sure about W4.  It's a niche IEM.  Lower midrange has problems.

Take away the larger soundstage of W4 and UM3X beats it emphatically!  UM3X tonality, decay and more satisfying bass make it a no brainer for those looking for a larger more aggressive sound.
