I highly doubt cd's are "boosted" to offset room speaker roll-off since probably 75% of the music buying public is kids attached to earphones and car stereos. I think the boost, coloration whatever you want to call it is intended to improve the sound to the listener. Whether that's good, bad, inaccurate, etc...I think todays cd's sound MUCH better than "flatter" (should I say?) cd's from 20 years ago. But that's just me.
