Since coming to Japan, I've got a wealth of photos that I've been looking to organize into some sort of presentation to torture my friends and family with. I know iPhoto's slideshow feature is quite excellent, as it allows you to select music to go along with the slideshow while providing excellent fade transitions. I'm looking for a similar program that will run on WindowsXP, as my iBook is currently being detained in South Korea. Any suggestions?

Personally, I do not like the automated slideshows. Some pictures require less than 5 seconds (or whatever you set automation on) and with a lot of pictures this can really make the event a long one. Other pictures require the telling of a story.

I use iTunes to play music in the background and I don't like transitions (because the slideshow is not automated).

I find it easiest to just use my mouse (with a 2 meter cable) and sit away from the laptop. That way, I can click to advance, and rightclick to return.

IrfanView is easily my favorite basic image program. Slideshows, for example, render much faster than the built in XP image viewer.

Consider avoiding automation, it makes the slideshow longer and less dynamic.
