for my mpx3
Boy do I hate waiting.....
I also have amperex 7119 and tung sol 5687 black plate d getters on the way.
I'm curious if anyone, after trying slam tubes, went back to the 6sn7's.
also if there are other tubes I should definitely try.

The TS 5687s are hard to beat. I have some Westinghouse, Raytheon and RCAs, but the TS have that extra ooomph...

I go back to the 6sn7s and different combos. It's nice to hear the differences.

Recently tried 2x Sylvania wgta with a vt-231...Nice and smooth...

The 5687s are going to give you that extension and SLAM...

All the adapters IMO are a great investment. For drivers, the 7N7/7AF7, ECC2 (6CG7) and 2c51 (5670) are all excellent and those tubes cost a fraction of what the 6sn7s cost...

Got them today. Whoever named 5687's Slam Tubes was a genius. What a great description. I've got the TS 5687 D getters in now. (I'll switch to amperex 7119's later.) The TS are heaven with Santana.

I'll add that I'm amazed at the ability to so dramatically change the sound of the mpx3 by changing tubes. Between the mpx3 and my hd600's I feel like I can tune and improve SQ almost indefinitely.

I have always liked the TS D getter 5687s best. The Amperex are nice too .... with a very clean, clear detailed sound with good punch from the mid-bass. Another really good 5687 with the Senns is the Sylvania 5687WA.

I got the 5687's for my AKG K701, and have been using it with a Bendix 2c51 in the driver position for a long time. Recently, I became somewhat dissatisfied with the bass on the K701, so I switched back to my HD650's with the 6SN7's. It sounded nice, but it missed the "slam" of the other tube combo. So then on a lark I tried the 5687's/2c51 with the HD650, and I really like it. It's got nice response at the lower end, plenty of "slam," and while it doesn't have the high end that it does with the K701, the sound is very dynamic, yet musical. I may be sticking with this combo for awhile.

Anyway, it really is need to be able to roll tubes to get what you want out of different cans.
