Thanks for the help guys! I'll try the cheater plug first, to see if there's a ground loop problem, then I'll move on to checking the wiring again. If all else fails, I think there's a guy here on Head-fi who's located on the Big Island and builds tube amps so I can try get in contact with him for repair as shipping will not be as astronomical as shipping to the Conus.
