Hey guys. I'm currently using a MacBook's optical output run to my Harman Kardon AVR-435 receiver. This works great, but my speaker configuration in the basement is not setup such that it is really very listenable when I'm sitting at my desk.

Therein lies the problem. How can I simultaneously get audio at my desk and from the receiver? Any ideas?

EDIT: Could I accomplish this with some sort of firewire audio interface? I think in theory it is possible but I don't know if the software would let me output to the digital out and analog outs simultaneously...

I guess there is also the potential for a lag between the two with this sort of setup.

I recommend you buy an AirPort Express for your speaker system in the basement.
You can then stream wireless from iTunes on the MacBook to the AirPort Express, and even play locally at the same time.
