List them. I find these bands sometimes the most fun bands to listen to. They are the bands who are not trying to fit into some genre, like Porcupine Tree being progressive, although very good

. Not pompous like Radiohead. Or trying too hard to sell their music like U2. Just plain, simple, straight forward fun rocking music.

For me:

Spoon, can't have enough. Mostly cause their songs only last 2 minutes.

Eagles of Death Metal, this is just plain rock, talented musicians just have fun.

Ben Folds, he's pretty good on the piano, but still minimalistic to me.

You can make the case that Spoon is the best band out there (taking into account all albums, of course), in no small part because of the theme of this thread.

I'll recommend the White Stripes, but mostly their earlier works.

I couldn't agree more with Spoon. Short simple songs with a good beat. I'm not much of a dancer nor do I care to dance but a Spoon song makes want to get jiggy.

Another band that fits the criteria is a little band from Halifax, NS called Sloan. Their album "Never Hear the End of it" gets a ton of play time in my house

By extension, I'll go The Raconteurs, though not quite as paired down. Art Brut has released a trio of fun albums. They can be a little samey, but Bang Bang Rock & Roll was great.

2x on Art Brut. To some, Vampire Weekend's music probably seems more complicated than it actually is…definitely fun, though.

I like those punk-era New York bands:

New York Dolls

Blondie

The Ramones

I was going to suggest Sloan before I read your post. One of the first bands i started listening too when i rediscovered music in the nineties. I'd suggest though that the 2006 album "Never hear the end of it" is a deviation from the standard album format. 30 songs running to a length of 1.2 hours that to me take the form a medley. I suggest not to listen to this on your DAP if it doesn't support gapless playback.

Others that strike me as "simple yet fun" while i look through the artists beginning with S in my itunes library are Supergrass, the Shins, Soundtrack of Our Lives, and the Super Furry Animals. (and Spoon of course)
