Simple fix for cable microphonics

Can't get much simpler:

This is pretty effective on those horrible silk covered cables that AT and Sony use.

WARNING: do NOT pull the knot too tight or you will damage the cable.

This won't kill all of the vibrations transmitted by the cable, but it reduces them 80% (estimate). The mechanism is complex, and I don't know all of it. Suffice it to say that it is a loss mechanism.

More elaborate knots may work better. I leave that investigation to the reader.

Too necromance this thread - it works.
 
One can also just make a smallish 1" sized loop and tie the cable at the meeting point with one of those twisty things that most cables originally come with.
