And those earphones are just sick!

Edit: The thread says that's D-311 Limited Edition, 3000 pieces (OH! so this is what vwap was talking about, but not the black normal mass production one tho), each unit has two numbers, one is the serial number and one reads xxxx/3000... wow really sick!

Does anyone want a standard D311... heck, all of my PCDP collection, in a trade for one of those?

I think this yellow guy owns all these... crazy person I might add... Yeah the black one wasn't rare as I mentioned b4 cuz I've seen it everywhere back in elementary school...

Let's see if you guys can see this thread too... rather big pics that won't fit head-fi... but these are old Walkman print ads... I love the WM-D6C one, the guy on the left looks like Bill Gates... and the TPS-L2 one seems to have an early Aibo concept... lol! http://www.jd-bbs.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=106189

So the black 311 isn't that rare, only this silver one?

I partially disagree with Krayzie here...

The standard D311 IS rare, in the fact that you rarely see them popping up on EBay... and this gold version just adds weight to the fact that Sony really put some top quality gear in the D311s... I don't know of any other PCDP that has had the 'gold and silver' treatment apart from the D25 & D25S... but as has been mentioned before, they were for first class accomodation on flights... would the 311 have had the same destiny???

If you can get $300 for a standard 311... imagine one of those beasts on EBay

Well currently the D-311 can be classified rare I guess, but not back in the early 90's, many of my classmates had one...

What year did it came out again? Just trying to think if there was any special occasion for such a release... I still think 1989 was the most crazy year - Walkman 10th Anniversary, MDR-E484, WM-DD9, D-555, the Spirit concepts to remind designers of their roots even during a time of economic downturn and market slump...

Ok, but it looks like the 3000 figure that gets mentioned from time to time applies to the silver one, right?

BTW, Duncan, are you duncan_r1977 on ebay?

Of course at the moment I hardly see any FS. Anyways, I wouldn't touch the gold version with a 10 foot pole. It looks terrible, unless of course the sound blows the standard D311 away.

No, I was just browsing for PCDPs and saw that familiar name somewhere (D-33 I think? Not interested in any case, already got one...). But it's good to know who's fair game and who's not, would hate to fight a fellow head-fier...

silver means nothing to me... most of the best stuff come in black color with thick thick casing...

Silver is some marketing gimmick to get us think it's good and valuable... dammit! neomania... it's so true lol!
