Also don't be confused by the typos on the page for the black ram din... it inadvertantly shows text from the SIK IMP.

The white unit page shows these features

--6-pin FireWire port (female) on 7-inch cable
--line level audio output on 7-inch cable
--gold plated right angle 1/8-inch [3.5mm] stereo plug
--works with iPod photo, Click Wheel iPod, iPod (with Dock Connector) and iPod mini

however the black unit page incorrectly shows it as
--line level audio output (3.5mm stereo jack)*
--indicator LED
--diode protection
--replaceable fuse
--works with any iPod

I've already emailed SIK, so they're likely to fix the errors.

Would there be a significant difference between using this new cable vs. a SiK Imp with a connecting cable...? What is the main purpose of the female firewire port?

my guess would be thta the female firewire port is for charging.



but what does the led indicator do, is it to show that the ipod is charging or that the unit is funtioning

that was a typo, there is no LED on this one i believe.

rats, this looks promising. i'm already using a xin right angle adapter with the sik din - this would cut out one adapter in the signal chain, so tempting...ok, i'll wait for the xin adapter to bust apart before i get this then.
