Shure SRH1540 Review

I wish someone can do a comparison of the 1540 and the DT770 80 ohm. I think I'd like the Shure but I've read some people say they can be a bit fatiguing at times. I own the DT770 and really like them, they're not fatiguing for me personally, the bass is immensely enjoyable too.

Mine are the 250 ohm version of the DT-770s, but relative to the 770 punchy bass and well defined mids, and without lower bass encroachment into vocals, I believe the SRH-1540 will be a disappointment. The treble for both is comparable, and while we all have our particular preferences, I find the DTs much more comfortable to listen to.

Just in case you may be interested… my goto cans currently are the similarly priced Fostex T60RP Argons. They are similarly tuned, and semi-open but my wife never complains. Do a search for them, and you should find them at Mod House.

#HTH

Thanks :) And in terms of price, with headphones like Fidelio X2 and Jubilee 58x available for 150 dollars, do you think in all honestly the Shure is worth its retail price? I'm talking over 400 euros here.
The Fidelio X2HR and Jubilee are two of the headphones in my collection (bought it for around X2HR for 130 USD including sales tax and a bit more for the 58x). I find the SRH-1540 to be significantly better as it is more detailed, bass is more tuneful and precise, better and larger sound stage etc. I have large collection of headphones and quite a few of them are significantly more expensive than the SRH-1540, but the SRH-1540 are in the top 2 for home use while the 2 you mentioned are rarely used.

DAC and amp that you drive your headphones with will change the perception of value as better gear will extract more of the headphones potential. The SRH-1540 works very well from a dragonfly red, but sounds significantly better with good desktop amplification. The other two you mentioned need powerful desktop amplification to work well.

The problem with value is that it differs from person to person. For some 400 euros is a huge sum, while for others it is not that much money. It also comes down to what value you put on sound quality, comfort and other aspects of a headphone. Personally I would say the 1540 are definitely worth the price difference, but I value sound quality and 400 euros is a moderate sum for me. Different perspectives may conclude differently.

How is the headband holding up for people? I see lots of early reports that the headband is very uncomfortable and not durable.
Fine for me and have had them for about 4 1/2 years with lots of usage. Not had any comfort issues as they are so light that the headband doesn't put a lot of pressure. Headphone fit and comfort is always a personal thing though so best bet is to try before the purchase is final.

I have had my 1540s for 7 years. carry them in a backpack without the protective case they came with and they still look new. I would say 7 years is durable and I can use them for hours on cross country flights with no comfort issues. I had stopped buying other headphones because I love them so much but after 7 years I am getting tempted

I have Shure SRH1540 headphones and Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7B headphones. I may just sell my pricier headphones. My favorite combination is Shure SRH1540 headphones with my Sony NW-WM1Z Gen 1. The Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7B headphones are very good with Lotoo Paw Gold Touch, balanced. More resolution, whereas Shure is a smooth pleasing. 20230903_122043.jpg

:S Sorry but I have never been able to test the sound paired with the WM1A. I'm still rockin the WM1Z-SRH1540s (balanced) combo, It's the best thing ever.
I own Sony NW-WM1Z and Shure SRH1540 headphones now. I have an LQI balanced cable. It is my favorite combination. So damn good. I sold my NW-WM1A.

I do really enjoy mine, as well. Currently my work headphone is my Beyer DT150, but I'm thinking of bringing it back home because it's 250-ohm and high-impedence like that cans tend to sound fantastic from my Bottlehead Crack tube amp, and I'm curious to hear that combo. And if I do bring my DT150 back home, my 1540 is the obvious choice as a replacement for office rock and roll funtimes. Not only am I curious to hear the BHC+DT150 synergy, I'm also very curious to hear the Schiit/Nitsch Piety (my office amp)+1540 synergy. So there's a lot of reasons I'm eager to take it to work.

Has anyone ever taken measurements of these using different pads or with dynamat installed in the cups?
Dekoni makes pads for these, but they're perpetually sold out on the site.
