Hoping a Shure rep will jump in but welcome comments from all.

In regards to the "rolled off highs", how much is intentional and how much is the inability to design their IEM's with crisper highs? This characteristic bothers some more than others. The roll off obviously provides a warmer, less fatiguing sound yet the upper-mids are very crisp and detailed which kind of offsets the lack of super high end detail by some degree.

General comments on this IEM are that it is about perfect in every regard except for that roll-off. This roll-off was also a common complaint with E4 but now an upgraded product (E530) comes out at 2 1/2 times the cost and that common complaint is still there. Comments? Opinions??

The so called "roll off in treble" is not significant in E500, in fact it sounds in very good balance in whole frequency range. In my experience, the Shure sound signature in not on the treble, but in the low-mid (500-2500Hz) range. Since the first day I used the Shure V15 Type IV MM pickup phone in turntable age, to E2C, then E4C and now E500. All of them have similar signature in low-mid range.
