I'm thinking of picking up the Shures on sale. I've never had Shure IEMs though and thus far the UEs are my point of reference. I'll be running these unamped.

Well that's saying a lot! I thought the clarity on the UEs was stellar. Now I'm very tempted. How are the Shures for comfort? I can wear the UEs for quite a while.
Unamped I thought the E4G I had was only 15% better than the SF 3 and I sold the E4G due to the need for an amp to bring out enough bass and also Shure are slower than UE and I like speed. I thought for the $120 more I paid ($190 vs. $70) the diminishing returns seemed too much. But for $80 they are good; probably still the best mids in any earphone. Might depend on what your source is and what sound you want. So they may not be automatically much better. You know, YMMV.
