i find the vocals to be a little layed back. and the vocal seperation with more than one voice is not as good with the E3s i used to have.

U cant be serious, um2s have strong midrange, only thing that's recessed is the treble.

With the UM2 I find the soft flex tips to sound best. I use them on the bus except it doesn't isolate the engine rumble enough, especially when I sit at the back by the engine. Still struggling to get the triflanges to be more comfortable, and I seem to hear the bus ac more with them. Somehow, the clear tips sound good when walking around noisy city streets, although I don't like the sound anywhere else. Besides having a different sound, each tip isolates differently, and different circumstances need different frequencies emphasized and/or isolated.
