How do shure's e5c rank or compare with full-sized cans out there, namely the A900, HD595 and grados?

Not as good as Grado 225's...but impressively close for such a small package.

To my ears, the shure E5C is an amazing portable phones that come close to the full-size headphone. I belive the Shure is comparable to the Senn HD-580 or Grado SR-225. That is a very impressive performance given its size.

I heard canalphone is twice as expensive as a headphone. Therefore, shure e5c is about Grado sr225 performance level.

thats not always true although canalphones can be expensive but thats because there isnt as much selection as with cans.

I would say the E5's are a notch below 595's and SR225's.
