Need some quick advice....

Thinking of some E4c's, but I could stretch to the E5c's.
But, is that overkill for use just with a 60G 5th gen iPod??? I'm thinking the 5's may be boyond what I need and therefore not worth it?
Are the Ec5's harder to wear/less practical to carry about???

Sure, I'd like the best, but also the most practical to use daily for carrying about with the ipod.

Any thoughts from owners of both (I have Grado cans for home use, so they will be soley for casual use).

Get the Westone UM2 instead, the're cheaper and better than the E5C. I didn't like the Shures btw, too much bass too handle, not transparent at all. UM2 have better detail imho, though nothing to be enthousiastic about.

If you're going straight from an iPod, I would echo sidewinder's recommendation for the UM2. If you're gonna be amped, either now or in the future, both the E4 or E5 shine. Between those two, it really depends on whether you want bass (E5) or balance (E4). But out of an iPod, neither show what they are capable of.........which is a lot!

I'm sure an amp can open up their full capabilities (and I have one so I'll see).

Fact is, they are gonna be used on the move without one. NOW... even if they dont perform 100% from an ipod unamped, surely they still do much better than the e2c'3c and the rest of the sub $200 or £100 others?!

Due to a last minute hitch I seem to be heading for the E5C's

I don't seem to recall that the E5C is that more refined than the E2C. It just has a bigger dynamic range due to the dual drivers, but that's about it imo. The UM2 compared to the E2C is another story, one with a positive ending

Between the e5c and um2, i prefer the um2. Actually, maybe i'm weird but i prefer the e4c to the e5c. I compared the e5c and e4c and the e5c were too bright for my ears. Of course, the e500 trumps all. Between the e4c and um2 is a matter of budget and taste.
