My E5 has a broken cable which I tried to fix several times.
The cable is not entirely broken but just the plastic covering is cracked open en the steel woven outer wire is broken.I tried to solder the outer cable together and tape it together but it just won't hold.I think the plastic covering has gone brittle and cracks easy.The shures are 4 years old and warranty is gone of coarse.(Send them anyway to shure and see what happens...?)
Has someone recabled/opened the E5's with succes,or am I doomed and have to go buy some new IEM?
I use the Shures almost every day at work so I am a heavy user.

can you post pics of the problem? I would suggest cutting the wire from the base of the Y split, insert some heatshrink, re attach the plug and that should fix the problem.
