I was wondering if the e4 was
A) worth the extra money over the e3 and
B) sounded good unamped (obviously an amp would help).
I listen almost exclusively to rock and am looking for a grado-like (i.e. "fun") IEM. From what I could tell, these sound like they'd be close to what I'm looking for.
Also is there any difference between the e4/e4c/e4g other than color???

Hello Alex. I've already told you most of my thoughts in IRC, but here's some more.

All I know about the guitar/rock stuff is that I never really understood how people could say that a guitar sounds beautiful through headphones--until I listened to some Zeppelin with these. Yummmmmmmmm.

Differences between models?

E4c: white, nicer packaging
E4: black, normal Shure packaging
E4g: allllllllllll black, shorter cord

I can confirm that they sound good unamped. I had a mini-meet at my place where I ran them from an old Sony Discman and got pretty darn good sound out of them. Mind you the Sony is from the good old days and actually has a decent headphone output, so I don't know how the E4 would fare with today's wussy devices.

The sound does remind me of my Grado 225 but with less tizzyness in the highs and less treble overall. It's definitely a fun sound and I was able to rock out to my metal & rock CD's with no issues.
