Does the amp change the sound signature in any way, if so how?

It may be psychoacoustics. Since today's gear can power alot of the IEMs/Headphones we enjoy today. Not so much back in 2008-09. You needed an Headphone amp to get the best sound quality out of headphones. I don't think it changes the signature but amplifies it.
