Should I keep my AKG 271s, and sell my Senn HD280 pros and Grado sr60s?

i think its reasonable to sell both the hd280 and the sr60. then use the money you make to buy some headphone amplifier like a pimeta or super mini which can be use to drive the k271s more properly to its full potential.

I say sell them all and get something like the Sony CD3000, since you seem to be into mixing and recording. Later on you can buy a buffo amp. It's either that or go with another AKG, perhaps the K240M, K240DF, or K240S/55.

The AKG K271S scales fairly well with good equipment, IMO. If you plan on getting a better source and an amp, it's a good idea to keep it.
I've heard that the NEW airhead from headroom is an excellent product.. It is the older version that you should stay away from.

The highs on the 271s are weaker than the 280, but the 280 is very harsh, IMHO. The 271s could probably use a little more in the highs and in the lows, but in general I find them reasonably ballanced - they're definitely the best cans i've ever owned - at least until the CD3Ks arrive

Don't go too mad on an amp, I think the 271 get only a little benefit from them - the source is more important. FYI I can't hear a difference between using my PCs onboard sound and using a Sonica/Pimeta when I use the 271s.

Don't worry about the graph, use your ears. I have 280s and 271s and I much prefer the 271s - the 280s get barely any use in comparison.

To my ears, the 271 has much, much better bass and is quite smooth and easy to listen to. The 280 is more analyical, has better treble (too much IMHO), and feck all bass. I can't stand to listen to the 280 for very long, but I can listen to the 271 for hours.

The AKG 271s do really well for a high comfort, high isolation headphone. It's no easy feat. I agree, they're smooth and easy. I call them the mellowphones.

And I agree, ultimately you should trust your ears.

I like the 271s better than the 240S, BTW.
