Hi there,

I was just wandering around and I stumbled over a place where I can buy a AKG K-701 for the 185 euro.

Should I do it??

I already have a HD650, SR-225 and the very populair K-81.

The prize is so attractive, but is it so different from my other phones?

AARRGHH! I thought I fought off G.A.S.
But it`s still slumbering in my body.

Compared to something like a Beyerdynamic 880 they're not so different but they are quite good if driven properly. They're not so heavy on the bass if you like that sort of thing but if you like a smooth response throughout the frequency range they're a winner.

K701s are going in the $250-$290 range on ebay here. So at the current exchange rate 185 euro looks good.

Sounds like a great price, in NL they seem to go for 300+ euro new, last time I checked.

I think if u can power the HD650 already the AKG would easily be powered.

If you buy them just be aware that the 701 need a *lot* of running in before they sound good..

From what I can tell you don't have an amp that will drive them well so the 185 becomes more like 585. The 701's are a lesson in torture, comfort wise and sound wise. Buy some music with that money.

you mean new for 185 euro? this is not such a great price, there are many trusted sellers on ebay sell it for the same price.

Couldn't disagree more. My 701's are more comfortable than any other phones I've owned, and I've owned phones for 42 years. I listen to classical music, primarily, and find the 701's to be the most accurate at reproducing the sound of a full symphony orchestra or a small chamber ensemble. They are also a good deal at around $250.

I've owned HD650 and various Grados, I feel that K701 is nothing alike than those former two and if you're looking for a third phone to compliment you HD650 and SR225, go get it
