Both cost exactly 419.99 cad at ncix.com and so which one should I buy? I am using a V-can musical fidelity amp btw. Thanks

I just got the 990-600 and am quite impressed with the bass response and smoothness of the upper registers. Never heard the 880.

DT880 is more neutral. DT990 has more bass and treble but that isn't always a good thing.

What music do you listen to?

I can say that the DT880 are a decent all-arounder but really shine with Jazz and Classical music recordings. Without ever hearing the 990, I can't say what the difference would be.

I would listen to those who own the DT990 here on an opinion of that 'phone.

Either, I would imagine, are excellent headphones. I don't think you can go wrong as long as you go for the beyer house-sound (without hearing a pair, best you can do is read impressions and reviews like I did before the plunge).

Good luck,

Nylan

B&H but they may be temporarily out of stock now.

Keep in mind that if you really want to buy Canadian, choose to go with the 990, and are willing to try the pro version instead of the new consumer version, you can get them at Long & McQuade for about half what they are selling for at NCIX.

I know there are some arguments about the differences between the pro and new consumer versions, but that's a pretty huge price difference.

I own the 990pro and the 990 is a much better can, clearer and more musical. The 880 is good, high in detail, but ultimately I found it not as entertaining as the 990s, YMMV.

my guess is the 990pro resemble the 770pro(80omh) with better soundstage?lol

How would you compare the bass of the DT880 to the DT990? Do they have over done treble/brightness?

I love the DT880/250ohm, I just wish it had more of the fun factor

I have owned both for a long time. They are more similar than most people think, with the main exception being the bass. The DT990 has more. Quite a bit more. Sometimes that's a good thing, and sometimes it isn't, as others have said. For me, I generally prefer the DT990, as I like a little more bass than some. But there are tracks where the DT880 sounds better. If I listened primarily to vocal performance, Opera, or Classical, I'd go DT880. For rock, I generally prefer the DT990.

Both are truly excellent headphones, though.

I had the 990s and a friend (still) has the 880s. I much preferred the 990s. The 880s just didn't have the dynamics that the 990 does. I very much liked those 990s.

Skylab,

have u tried the DT990's or any Beyer re-cabled with Black/Silver Dragon or something similar?

do you think it will add the weight and definition or is the improvement not even worth it?

I really love my DT880's and might keep them for the Acoustic/Classical/relaxing tracks... but I am really leaning towards the 990's as my future all-in-one cans as they would really suit my music genre + more bass could never hurt

I agree with Skylab, I mostly listen to intstrumentals; jazz, soul, funk and I also preferred the DT990's over the DT880's because of its bass. I also find both phones quite similar in sound with the exception of the bass with the DT 990's.

The DT880's are a bit more neutral and have better highs in my opinion. You should try them both and see what you like! We all hear differently and have different tastes when it comes to sound and music of course.

Goodluck!

oh sweet. did your DT990/600 ship already? I thought you were gonna get them on Monday O_O

I never would have thought the DT990's would also excel in Jazz/classic ! I thought that was DT880's strengths

i definitely need to pull the trigger on these once i get my tax return. But i don't know if i should also add $200 on a Black Dragon re-cable
