i listen to metal, rap, oldies, electronica, given to 2 choices (unless you can find a way to get me some dt770/80 to Victoria, BC, canada...)
which is better for bass.

Dont buy the 595's for bass. I am seriously considering selling them because of the lack thereof. Even with my AD8397 Go-VIbe, the bass is just too lacking. Unless you have a serious tube amp hooked up to it (or some SS equilivant with good bass reproduction), you arent going to be satisfied, especially for rap (which the 595s are doing a horrible job on atm). Find a way to get the 770s. Thats my opinion. I hear that Grados are decent in the bass department aswell. I will have to check that out once my 125s come in. You dont like the bass on the 280s? They were decent for rap out of my old receiver. Curious.

If you like the 280 bass, I would steer clear of the 595s. Those new 770 hifis look juicy sweet.

590's have good bass. Nice impact, slightly elevated compared to the rest of the frequency range, in my opinion. Perhaps a touch bloated. But if you like bass than the 590 will be much better for you than the 595.

You won't like the 590's if you like your bass crisp. Definitely boomy. I think the 595's have decent, well defined bass, but maybe a bit thin for a basshead. Honestly if you really enjoy bass-y music neither is a good choice.

BTW I own the HD595's and listen to a lot of electronica and I think they sound really good. "Punchy" maybe is a good term I'd use for 595 bass.

The hifis are the new dt770s (I heard them called the hifis in a review and thus I assumed the name was established). (http://www.beyerdynamic.com/cms/Prem...ctdatabase_pi1[showUid][showUID]=173&tx_sbproductdatabase_pi1[showUid][backPID]=105&cHash=0f9957feaa).
How does 590 bass compare to 280/grado pro series bass? If it is a beefier 595, then I may just look into it.
