Should I Buy A Better Power Cord???

Jude - get yourself a cheap $15 tripod. Position the subject near a window (natural light) and position the camera for the shot you want. Set the auto-timer (as if you were going to take your own picture) and let the camera take the shot without you touching it. Because it's on a tripod it won't blur even if the exposure is long, and because you don' t need to make the exposure short enough for handheld you also don't need to flare out the subject with so much light.

You don't even need the tripod if you can get the camera sitting on a steady surface pointed at the right thing. Lots of photographers as a sort of a squishy monopod. But don't ever use the flash on a digital (or any camera) unless you're looking for a specific effect.

Curious to see clear shots of what's inside a magic power cable!

Did you use it only for the amplifier, or also for the CD player?

I have a Nite Series on my SACDP and a Signature on my amp.

Jude,
So, what are you saying about the guts of the VD cable?

In advance, my apologies for the extreme offtopicness of this post...

Jude: There's really two tricks to turning something like this into something more approaching this.

* A good digital camera; in my case a Nikon Coolpix 990. Best camera I've ever used. It's the difference between this: http://www.drsue.net/images/meta42-top.jpg
and this:

* BEING OUTSIDE!!! Natural lighting is really good for picture taking; look at these photos: http://www.drsue.net/images/hansenbo...0Underside.jpg
(taken outside w/ Nikon 990)

http://www.drsue.net/images/my-room.jpg
(taken inside w/ Olympus D-620L SLR digital camera)

You'll note the lighting is quite good on both - but what you DON'T notice is that I needed a 600 WATT movie light for the second picture! Even then, it's not terribly sharp.

Lastly, the Nikon has a very, very good macro mode.

Nightfall, and all you other guys should read this:

http://home.new.rr.com/zaph/audio/johndunlavyonwire.htm

it's written by John Dunlavy, who makes those famous speakers you find in all the mastering houses... and in those rich folks' homes.

....now, like antness, i don't believe in the vd cables makes any difference at all... but man, a cable that's 1" thick just pure makes your system feel larger, you know? and for $35, it beats going out and spending $10 for a mass produced cable...

but i agree with aeberbach (seems i usually do)... no matter if the cable does anything or not, you should start using your money where it counts the most--a good power filter/balancer/conditioner/regulator.... blah blah blah. i personally use a Furman AR-1220 (voltage regulator) > Furman IT-1220 (voltage power transformer/balancer > Furman PL-8 Plus (conditioner)... can't get much purer than that. and if for some reason lightning strikes my house.... i'd be dead, but at least my equipment survives. heh he.

Gimme a break, how could Jude be more famous than he already is? The dissection has revealed a real Frankenstein's monster!

Yes indeed, his power cord dissection was even mentioned on BBC World News last night!
