Shanling M8 Android Portable player

I'll be able to give you a full report tomorrow night, I'm feeling feverish and think I need to stay home sick tomorrow. So a listening marathon is in order. Richard sounds great on the Ely, MEST, Meister, and Trio. As far as the V, it's more pronounced on the MEST, the Trio has the elevated bass, but doesn't rise as much in the treble. Though it's early yet, I'm having trouble typing, the M8 and Trio keep pulling back in the Dead at Cornell!

@Shanling Please could you answer the following before I buy your lovely player?

I just noticed on the Shanling website about the last firmware. Its dated November 2020??? Is that really the last time the player was updated???

It states that the player is a full decoder for MQA BUT does not support MQA whilst using the Tidal app streaming just yet. Is this still the case???

If the website is out dated and If the player is a MQA decoder and not just a renderer and supports Tidal full MQA decoding whilst streaming IM SOLD !!!!!!!
Ignore these dates on our site, they are pointless. I recommend to check the news section instead.

Last update was released January 26th.

Tidal added implementation for M8 on January 29th and now M8 supports full unfolding of MQA. https://en.shanling.com/article-M8MQA.html

@Shanling , my M8 arrived today from China, wow, sounds even better than I anticipated! A quick question, do I go to my Dealer for that, or can you help me?

If you asking about warranty, that's with your original Chinese seller only.

No, I bought from a US dealer, and it was shipped directly to me.

Hi everyone

I’m a current iBasso DX300 owner and thinking of swapping for a Shanling M8

I listen to mostly EDM via Tidal streaming but also have local music as hi bit flac on the player.

The reason I want to change is due to the DX300 volume knob as it shuts down the player when in jeans pocket due to poor design.

Are there any things I will miss or gain by changing to the M8?

@Vitaly2017 If I’m not mistaken you have had a dx300, a hiby R8 and the Shanling M8. Which one did you prefer and for what reasons over the others?

Thanks in advance.

I think I jave mentioned ot many times on the coarse of the thread about the 3 daps.

I wont be able to repeat it in exact words. But it is M8 that has won me over the 3 latter you are asking about.

Cause it had the most pleasant and open sounding presentation.

I would say M8 is the best pick for edm too. m8 bass is very good it has a rich texture and kick. The decay is special to M8.

M8 offers a more expansive and open sound, along the more beautiful vocals and charming none fatiguing treble.

R8 has more layers and textures in resoluting the bass timbres cause its very analytical naturally tuned.
M8 is warmer and that hides those performance of R8 on the M8. But M8 is in the long run is a very rewarding dap as it brings musicality magic and fun always to the table and never boring.

Is that enough good reasons why you should get one asap 🤣🤣🤣😎😁

To make this clear to everybody:

APOS Audio is NOT our official dealer for USA. That's only Musicteck and Audio46.

If you have any problem with order from APOS or need warranty on product purchased from them, please talk directly to APOS. We can't help you.

The question he is answering has to do with the dx300 compared with R8 and M8, why he would mention the sp2000 or the 1Z, this type of coment has to do with the dx300? I know that there are Ibasso defenders everywhere but you got to understand that M8 is for him better than dx300...

Turns out sp2kcu is magic and no need to get 1z hehe
There is many many advantages that sp2k offers, volume wheel, very slim small pause play next buttons, big screen and has streaming, 500gig internal, more volume to drive heavy iems or headphones, sounds more balanced and technical. Might be a few more bonuses.

I walked around ak because of its cost and the 2.5 jack... I always though ak sound was neutral flat and I was wrong... The Cu and 1z has the closest sound then any other daps can come close to 1z tuning.

I think both daps are supreme but since ak does native streaming I like that much better and to me it seems ak has a more proper audiophile tuning then 1z. If you think of it 1z might be more V shaped then ak flat line. Flat in a sense of super balanced and not boring neutral reference. Or warm vs cold. Or musical vs neutral.

I agreed that M8 is better than Dx300, but it is modular amp. We will see what the other modules will bring. I disagree that Wm1Z is better than M8. I can’t speak for SP2K-Cu, but given the repeated trials on previous models, and latest Onyx black, I ain’t going anywhere near AK with money again.....unless I can demo their new stuff again at future CanJam. But we all hear differently. Another thing with AK is their warranty services and customer services is a B, where as Sony is non existent..... In this regard, both shanling and Ibasso wins

I second to your opinion.
I went through many AK DAPs like AK240, SP1kCu, SP1kMG, SP2kCu, and SE200. I agree that SP2kCu is the best among them, but it still lacks organic musicality. I also used to love WM1Z, but it's not exciting enough for my ears. For now, I'm happy with my M8. YMMV
