Shanling M6 Ultra - 4x AKM AK4493S DAC, Snapdragon 665, Android 10 DAP

When I say system wide, my other streaming apps on M6U don't load either. Running speed test on M6U results speeds which vary from 700 kbps to 40 mpbs, very inconsistent. Shanling M6U itself experiences unusable download speeds, regardless of the app. I am using Amazon Music HD and Apple Music. I notice very slow speeds when downloading apps from APK Pure as well. It took nearly 7 minutes to download Apple Music. I have sent Shanling a PM on this.

Therefore the wifi issues are systemwide on M6U and not app specific.

My router is a Linksys MX4000 Series WiFi 6.

Glad to see your download speeds are 80% of the max speed, you can enjoy streaming apps. For me it's a very different situation. 700 kbps is a fraction of a percent of my 845 mbps and streaming apps will simply not work with such low speeds. Shanling should not ship streaming devices with critical error like this to paying customers with such a flaw. FYI, I support their products. I have purchased many of their stuffs in the past from M6, M6Pro, M8, M30. I understand devices are not perfect at launch, but this is a significant issue.

The sound is good though, no doubting that.
I think systemwide was the trigger word - as in something affecting all users.

Have you tried a reset? Turn off security on the router? (Guest wifi with only basic security/settings)? Or use a mobile as a hotspot to see what happens then?

I’ve tried resetting M6U and rebooted my network, but I will not be modifying my router to accommodate this product. I expect to use this device at hotel, work and other places. If it doesn’t work at home, I can’t be assured it will work at the Marriott for instance.

This player needs to work regardless of setting.

Maybe a faulty device? I connected the M6U to my 5GHz network. Works fine, reception is fine. Apple Music starts pretty much as fast as on my iPhone 13 Pro. Tidal Master streams right away after starting a song.

Btw. I’m coming from the A&K SP3000 and this device has real wifi connectivity issues. M6U is leagues better.

I can report that I don’t have wifi issue. My setup is a simple huawei 4g home router (can you believe it? The cable project of the government was too slow to roll out that companies can offer cheaper and faster internet solely via 4g). I checked with YouTube streaming hd videos, but I did not stream hi-res music.

Not to invalidate the very real wifi problem facing some users, though. Hopefully Shanling can provide a software fix in the future as they seemed to pinpoint the root cause already.

I'm having Wifi issues, this is crazy 😂. I was going between 'like new' Shanling M8 with great sound but the slow Snapdragon 400 series processor or the modern Shanling M6 Ultra with midrange sound but fast processor. This M6U is pretty much useless, it's getting speeds in realm of 700 kbps, 4mbps, sometimes 30mbps. My iPhone/MacBook result with 800-900 mbps speeds as I have fiber. Streaming apps are so slow to load, they are pretty much unusable.

If I knew M6U wasn't properly engineered, I would've purchased the M8 . How can Shanling such an issue, this needs to be fixed ASAP. It is unacceptable for a modern Android DAP. @Shanling I've sent a PM, get this fixed. This is a system wide issue and NOT acceptable for a modern Android DAP. Streaming is the whole reason people buy this DAP. Waiting 5 minutes to get from opening Apple Music to playing one song is not acceptable. I've tried other streaming apps like Amazon Music, apps don't load quickly either.

Our 665 based DAPs have issues with small group of routers when used with WPA2.
I replied to your PM.

@Shanling Same slow wifi issue with an Eero 6+ router. Please let us know whether this can be fixed with a firmware update.

Responded, thanks for prompt response Shanling! I did switch my network to a mixed use WPA2/WPA3. Now it’s like roulette haha. Sometimes its dial up speeds, other times it’s usable. Another issue I found was the Wi-Fi will disconnect and reconnect when downloading music. Or the downloads will freeze.

Reported to software team.
Are you running it in 5G WPA2?

So far there was no fix for this from software team.

@Shanling Can we please find a fix or an update for the wifi issues please? I think its time to consider this a major problem, its an expensive dap and its troubling to see wifi problems. I bought my m6 ultra on october and while I enjoy it a lot. I just signed up for a 30 day trial on qobuz and looks like im not going to subscribe even if I like qobuz compared to my tidal. Only reason is when streaming, my m6 ultra cant even get stable speed to stream hi res on qobuz. Even if I have good internet connection (ultra fibre) it keeps cutting up. now thats annoying, I know shanling have a very good support system in headfi but it IMO it doesnt even make a difference if this major issues are just being neglected.

We keep providing feedback to our engineers on this. If you didn't send me yet, please let me know what router are you using.

Just received mine! Software isn’t as fluid as other Snapdragon 665 devices!

This is pretty common quality check you missed. Why didn’t you do this before releasing the product to the public? And regarding software development, it won’t take as much time as sound tuning, to provide a stable and fluid UI as far as Android can go. Anyhow you are using relatively pure android. I saw you pointing out Samsung in one of your previous posts, so a Samsung on SD665 with Android 9 feel more fluid than your Android 10 implementation on SD665 chipset. And so does HiBy and iBasso. It’s high time, you replicate smoothness of your DAP sound signature in your OS.
