I just bought some Airmotiv 4's and RCA cables. I have connected the speakers to the line out RCA plugs, and as expected, the volume knob won't change the volume since I'm bypassing the amp. The problem it that it's a pain to adjust the volume because each speaker has its own independent volume knob. Therefore to increase the volume I have to increase each monitor by the same amount separately. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to easily control the volume of these speakers through an E7/E9 setup? 
 
Currently I have Macbook --> USB --> E9/E7 --> line out (RCA) --> Airmotiv 4

I think you need to get a 3.5mm to RCA adapter and use the Pre-output if you want volume control from the E9
