Borrowed the sennnhieser 800s yesterday for a week. 2 hours of listening time under my belt. Asgard 2 amp inline.
Hifiman400i is what I own.
I'm looking for more detail and clarity.
So far the 800s are achieving the goal.
Just want to do all the research I can, during my demo week before a possible purchase.
Seems like the consensus is. " Just buy the sennnhieser 800s. Well worth $1500"
I did browse through the 800s thread. A little overwhelming.
So my question is
To those experienced with the sennnhieser 800s. Are they worth $1500
Thx

If you look around some, you can find them for alot less than $1,500.00.

Apparently you must be talking about the HD800 S, not the regular HD800?
Even if so, you can find the HD800 S for alittle over $1,200.00, or even less, used, on Amazon, Headfi classifieds, and sometimes on Ebay.

In my personal opinion they are, but ultimately it's up to your own ears using your own gear.
Compared to higher priced Audeze, Focal, Hifiman, Stax, etc., yes they are worth it, imho :)

Yes, they are very resolving and clear, that's for sure.
Good luck in making your decision

It really depends on how much 1500usd mean to you and how you weight its capabilities.
K712 will give you most of what HD800S is capable of for less than 300usd.
(big open stage, detailed treble, clean and layered yet slightly warm bass response, ...)

If you have the money, and enjoy the HD800S then why not?
It's a very good headphone and as long as you treat them with some care, it will retain good part of its value through the years.

If you read innerfedelity's review, they added distortions to the lowend to add more body to the sound and reduced the 6k somewhat, still the response is treble heavy and that outputs more of an in your faced detailing, and doesn't mean it's the resolving headphone. The boost of treble shifts the tonality to metallic side. 800s is still hasn't leveled their treble enough. Not worth retail or the high pricing.

The proponents of 800 argue the right amp is rquired to not sound shrill. The characteristics are shrilly sound. I expect balanced response at the pricepoint.
