I know they cost as much as a car, but a key to start up the amp?

Does it have a motor or some kind of generator in there?

yes, it uses a keylock power switch. I guess the designers decided to go full-out on the cheese

Not to mention the cheese on Sony R10, the cable is not sheilded with a normal tech-flex or whatever, its sheilded with 100% pure silk.

It's not a terribly secure keylock. I believe it's a 1-pin dimple lock type - the key is probably not specific to a certain unit, rather, every key will turn on every Orpheus.

Full out on the cheese would be to use a BiLock or an Evva MCS.
