I have that too, be listening to an interview or something and suddenly the audio will change. Still coming out of both earbuds but the spatial position and timbre of the people speaking will switch to an entirely different presentation. It seems to be the playback at my end rather than the recording at their end responsible as no one mentions audio changes in the video comments etc. I usually use Podcast setting in the app when listening to interviews so will have to experiment to see if switching it off works better.
are you moving around or a distance from your source when the sound changes ?? tricky environment, tons of people, devices, anything like that ??

I have not experienced this behavior, but I am using the standard quality codec. Might be that the higher resolution codecs are more sensitive and thus susceptible to various issues.

I’m in Shanghai, so it’s always a tricky environment with lots of people . But I didn’t get these kinds of changes happening with my Final ZE3000.

Anyone with the issue that the volume can be controlled only with the earphone found a solution (Sony 5V here)?
And if you plug the earphones taken from the case does your volume reset to some default value (I always need to turn it up)?

Purchased my MTW4 a few days ago and been enjoying them immensely. Running them in sound personalization mode with aptx adaptive. All I'm going to say briefly, I'm done with wired earbuds/iems. The Sennheiser control app is well designed and works so well with sound personalization that i prefer the setting rather then using the custom eq settings. It works so well that i could spend all day long in different eq settings and not even get close to the quality audio customization i get with s.p. on. Phone calls on any bluetooth earbuds never use high level codecs so when people describe sound quality of calls the hardware always falls back to basic sbc standards. Call quality comes from mics and software filtering. There's still room for improvements and hopefully, Sennheiser can tweak the noise reduction and voice pickup algorithms and improve voice-calling performance with a firmware upgrade. This is from a company that has a great history of building studio mics, they know how to tune in this category.

I have the same problem with Sony iv5. Can only adjust volume on the earphones. Really annoying. 😔

Its also annoying, when the sound suddenly switches to mono ( feels like all the music is in the center of your head ), and then suddenly back to stereo. And then mono again, so stereo and it keeps going. So frustrationg..😠😠😠😠 It also are the same problem with my Sennheiser momentum sport. Can it be some settings in the app or on the phone? 🤔

Yep. Sound amazing, great app. They can't send a firmware update to fix the infuriatingly large case, but they definitely need to for the phone call mics/ANC - they are unreliable for phone calls altogether for me.

What I find interesting from ppl that keep saying there isn't much different between MTW3 and 4s. Here's some facts from a customer service rep from Sennheiser answering the question...

We can help answer that. For this model, we improved the antenna design in consult with Qualcomm. This dramatically impacted the connectivity capability so there is a much faster connection and more stability versus the prior generation. You will find a difference.
Our new model's internal design has a new accoustical system. The MTW4 shares the same 7mm TrueResponse transducer driver but with a slight redesign in the sound signature. Our engineers have refined the sound signature a bit to give the treble response a bit more smoothness in the higher frequences for a more natural listening experience. The tuning intent was to boost the performance of vocal clarity and offer stronger engagement with the lower end of the frequency range. In fact, we think you will find more energy in the bass response upon playback than ever before. We hope you will discover more detail in areas like the upper bass region and the midrange frequencies.

For calls, we doubled the number of mics to 6 versus 3 on the MTW3. This is designed to help with voice pick-up and a stronger ANC performing for noise cancelling.

There are 12 new improvements in the MTW4. That plus the future-proofing with support for aptX Adaptive and LE Audio gives you the user the ability to enable lossless audio and be able take advantage of the next leap forward in bluetooth technology. And Auracast is coming giving you brand new ways to have your buds accept new use cases. Other brands arent doing that. We are.

We also revamped the Smart Control app too. This means easier and more reliable connections. This coupled with the new antenna design makes for a far more satisfying user experience.

Stand-out features are going to be different for every company because each one has their approach when it comes to priorities. We all want to be the best all-rounder for you. At the end of the day you need to decide what is the stand-out
feature for your needs. Are you willing to sacrifice the Sennheiser signature sound to go with another company's voice-pick-up? From the customer perspective, you have to choose your own buying criteria.

When we look at our market, we see that audio quality is the #1 buying criteria for those who are looking to buy in this category. That is certainly our strength being in the business for 75 years. While others try to focus on being all things to all people, our legacy is audiophile reproduction both professionally and on the consumer side. That is what we do best. There is a lot to be said for the Sennheiser signature sound.

We view ourselves as specialty audio and our experienced engineers make it so. Your listening enjoyment for your music is the top priority for us. Other elements are important too.

Its so frustration listening to music when it switches from stereo to mono/center of your head. This also happens to the momentum sport. Its not happening to my jabras. And it didnt happen with mtw3s or the Sony wf1000 xm5.

Anyone have an solution to fix this?

It's a very hit&miss. Earbuds keep switching those bitrates in order to not lose signal depending on the RF enviroment you're currently in.
Going mono is like the last saving grace to preserve the connection.
Despite antennas being more receptive than last gen (according to Senn description), they're still far beyond perfect.
A simple walk across a city proved to me how dense our enviroment is with various 2.4Ghz frequencies with wildly different behavior of buds.
As a funny story, I can say that in the city I found a certain corner nearby a block of flats, where if I took a turn, it always went ZAP, buds completely lost connection and after a few seconds I could hear "Connected" and the music starts again :)
I've confirmed this multiple times.
