Man, the more I listen to the Momentum the more I like it.   This is a really, really good headphone!!!

The momentum sounded really good in the setup they had when I went to an audio fair. But trying it directly with my X3 really tamed it and didn't sound that good anymore.
Always preferred portable straight to a dap instead of using an amp.

wow 270$ , big sale !
Do anyone use momentum with metal music ? How was that? The grado prestige series is better?
Thanks guys !

I think the Momentum would be too smooth and mellow for metal. Grado would sound like a much better choice.

When I tried the Momentum it sounded very good for metal. In general the Momentum is a hell of a ride and works for everything. But, I am a Sennheiser guy. I kind of have a grudge with Grado headphones, as when I listened to the lineup (all the way up to the top model) with mostly metal tracks and compared them to my HD 201, the HD 201 still held up well. I just dislike on ear headphones and how they lack atmosphere. There is no sound stage. It isn't about the drivers, which technically are very good, but pretty much just about the on ear aspect.

Grados are more 'exciting' if you want to hear screaming guitars and crystal clear solos, but Momentums deeper bass is very satisfying for bassy/crunchy aggressive rhythm guitar sounds.

Momentums are surprisingly fast, so they don't sound 'bad' with metal. Also they're tonally more accurate.
But Grados just do 'tone' and 'crunch' the way you'd want to hear it live.

Neither are better, just different. Better is whatever you prefer.

anybody else notice a HUGE difference in sound quality between the 2 cables? when i plug the 3 button it sounds way worse than with the no button cable.

I have not noticed any difference...but many have stated that the plain cable produces better sound.

There is no way that cable with buttons is not going to be worse than plain cable.

The three-button-cable does not work with my N900. I tried some Fiio adapters and still not working. Apple sux for inventing their own standard of jacks... Manufacturers sux because they actually manufacture products in this standard. It doesn't even work with 4-to-3 adapter, so maybe that cable is broken, but I can't check that cuz I don't have screw*'n i-device. Was considering buying kef m200, but they only come with this 4 contact plug, and I have a feeling I won't be able to use them with hi-fi...

Apple didn't invent the TRRS plug. They just adapted it, and patented its use for the 3-button mic. And that's about it. It was used before Apple got to it for number of different things. Perhaps it was because Apple used it for their mobile phones that it got popular, but don't forget that RIM and Nokia used TRRS BEFORE Apple even released the iPhone. The TRRS standard has nothing to do with Apple at all. And in fact, Nokia's TRRS was the unique one. You could only use specific TRRS adapters for Nokia phones otherwise it wouldn't work with those headphones. RIM, Samsung, Apple, and other major phone manufacturers all use the standard TRRS configuration, which means that they are using a universal standard. The only difference is the software implementation which is patented to Apple. This is why you can still use Apple branded cables on other devices. The only difference is that two buttons will be completely functionless, and only the middle button will do anything.

I don't like Apple much at all, but I don't blame them for things they didn't do.

My 3-button cable works fine with my ipod + pa2v2, but out of 3 different ones I tried in different shops, only one gave me REALLY bad sound (and this one was in a specialist high-end audio shop where everything is well looked after)
So I'm guessing there are faulty cables out in the wild.

Anyone tried pairing the momentum straight out from Colorfly C3 or FiiO X3 without amp? Would like to hear some feedback. I tried the Momentum with X3 for a few mins and brief impression was it didn't sound that good..

I think I can remember a discussion about a defective cable with remote some months ago... So besides simple fit-/contact problems it might indeed be defective. There would be no other reason for it to sound bad except not fitting the contacts correctly or being defective...

I've always thought the remote cable sounded really good. I'll try out the plain cable when I get home from work tonight and see if I notice any difference. I hope the simple cable doesn't sound better because being able to control my music while my phone is in my pocket is sooo convenient but I don't think I would sacrifice sound quality for it.
