Sennheiser HEV70 modifications?

Is it possible to modify the Sennheiser HEV70 for better performance? Would a STEPS power supply make an audible difference? What about modifications to the HEV70 internals?

I see only one modification that makes sense - build KGSS or the like instead

Almost completely surface mount. Front end high voltage switcher
makes any kind of decent power supply a complete waste.
